New Images and their Galleries:

The list of new images is once again long.  This time I've organized it by category (instead of gallery) followed by a short description of each new image, so you can decide which you'd like to view.

Photo titles are listed between quotes followed by a brief description or story, and the gallery containing the new Image.  Any of these images can easily be found by using the search by title option on the index page, or by viewing the gallery where the picture was added.

I suggest opening the newsletter in one browser window, and the wattsphoto.com/gallery home page in another.

  •  Scroll down to "Select Photo by Title".
  • Here you will start typing the name of a photo you'd like to view.  Hit the enter key and you will be taken to the large photo view.
  • When finished viewing click the page banner "Watts Photographic Images" to return to the home page and select another title you'd like to view.

The Alaska/Western Canada cruise and travel tips have been updated and cruise and travel tips for new Alaska/Western Canada galleries have been added.  You can find a link to these tips under the thumbnails on the index pages of each Alaska/Western Canada gallery.  If you travel to this region, I hope you will find them helpful.

  • "The Original Whistler"
    • Marmot at Whistler Mountain.  Did you know that the town of Whistler was named after the Whistler Marmot who makes a loud shrill whistling cry when in danger?  The story goes, that in the 1960's, London Mountain in Garibaldi Provincial Park was chosen as a site to host future Olympic Games.  The name "London Mountain" was reportedly given due to the frequent and sudden London-like fog that develops on the mountain.  However, as the ski area construction progressed and the area was to be marketed to visitors, it was felt that visitors would not be enticed by the prospect of fog.  The mountain was already known by the locals as Whistler after the Whistler Marmot (aka Whistling or Hoary Marmot). The mountain's name was officially changed to Whistler in 1965.  While Whistler lost the Olympic bid in 1976 to Montreal, it finally was selected as the site for the 2010 Olympics.
